I've seen some screen shots of other users vista desktops and they have transparent clocks and system monitors, music controls on toolbar, and different icon layouts (one had the desktop icons in a hexagon grid). Are these a feature on vista that I can't

Yes it is somthing you have to install for it you need to goto http://www.stardock.com and download Windows blinds for the theme but you have to buy it after the trial ends and other programs from them help provide the most custom interface that feels
