I just switched my OS on my laptop from Windows XP to Ubuntu Linux and I'm happy with it for the most part. However, I'm having trouble getting the hibernate function to work. Whenever I click hibernate, the monitor simply goes black and the computer
Sounds like it might just be sleeping instead of hibernating.
Hibernation with Linux is still a little bit hit and miss, sadly. How well it works for you depends a lot on the make and model of your laptop. I can't make any suggestions about
